We bought our Christmas present early- a brand new ginormous iMac. I'm just now figuring out how to cut and edit our videos...we have soo many good ones of the babes. This one is from the day we got home from the hospital...

When Finley Met Indy

video

They say that by three months (the babes are 2 and a half) infants should be sleeping through the night- 6-12 hours at a time. While our babes are starting to get it, we're not quite there. We have started a nap schedule and both Parker and Finley can be put in their cribs wide awake at nap time and fall asleep on their own- no tears, no problems. When it comes time for bedtime, however, they are having none of it. They start screaming the instant their little heads hit the crib sheets- whether they are awake or asleep. We're not the biggest advocates of letting them 'cry it out' so we'll pick them up, rock them back to sleep, put them back in their cribs and then wham, ten minutes later they're screaming again. We usually start the bedtime process around 7:30ish...then they scream, then we pick them up, then they scream, then we pick them up....this goes on until about 11 o'clock. The good news is that once they do finally fall asleep they are only waking up once in the middle of the night. If only we could master the 8pm bedtime. You're telling me this is more comfortable than your crib?!

Last night, after an entire of hour of crying, Brian and I looked at each other and decided enough was enough. On our third day of 'scheduling' we gave up. Perhaps our babies weren't intended for a schedule. At eight o'clock we picked them both up and played until eleven. Fin fell asleep on Brian's chest and was transported successfully to her crib. One down. Parker continued to fuss/play until midnight when his mom decided she was done playing and was ready for sleep. I put him in the swing, where he was (shockingly) quite happy. I went to bed with the door open waiting for the screams from both of them...Then an amazing thing happened. Finley went almost six hours between feedings and Parker slept through the ENTIRE night. He ate at 9:30, went to sleep at midnight and woke up this morning for the first time at 6:45!!! I have to admit that when I fed Finley in the middle of the night I did a few checks to make sure the kiddo was still breathing- our Parker go more than four hours without a meal?! Who says scheduling makes for happy babies and mommies? I suppose our kids were telling us that they'll be good if we don't 'make' them. Perhaps this is our first real parenting lesson- overbearing and protective parents make for the most rebellious kids. Lay off mom and dad...

I cannot believe it has been an entire month since our last post! So many new things to report...we are now back in Indianapolis and Parker and Finley are officially sleeping in their cribs. Well, sort of sleeping in their cribs. Because Parker is sooo big (14lbs. 7oz.- that puts him in the 96% percentile!) he can no longer fit in his bassinet (let's be honest, he outgrew that thing weeks ago!) and he is too big to sleep with his sister in the pack and play...he is not quite sure about the crib though. If he is dead asleep and we put him in it he is fine, but forget about putting him in it otherwise! We are trying to put the kiddos on some semblance of a schedule (ha!) but seem to be failing miserably...the doctor says kids over 10lbs. should be able to sleep 6-8 hours at a time. Hmmm. Not our 10 and 15 pound kids. Interestingly, Parker can sleep for 7 hours in his pumpkin seat and they can both sleep 5-6 hours in their car seats...put them in their cribs and they are up every 3-4 hours. They also have NO problem sleeping on down comforters, our bed, and other fluffy/soft things (see pics)...So frustrating!
They are both smiling all the time now (but unfortunately I have a super janky cam and haven't been able to catch the moment on film- the pic of Fin in the bath is the closest I've come!) and can hold their heads up like big kids! They love the bathtub and lights...yes, lights! Finley can stare at our chandeliers for HOURS! I wonder what they look like to her?! Parker still can't stand his big sister- he hates lying next to her and forget about feeding them at the same time. If he looks over and sees her he will pull away and scream! Let's hope he gets over this. Finley on the other hand loves her brother! She smiles and 'talks' whenever he's around...Finley has done a couple of roll overs- I think they were accidents. Still waiting for them both to figure it out!
